The city of Temple has officially re-opened Sammons Indoor Pool and announced when other things will re-open.

Like everything else that came to a stand still when Gov. Abbott issues the shelter-in-place orders, the Temple Parks & Recreation Department closed its recreation facilities and suspended all programs and events to help flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19.

Now that Gov. Abbott has started the process of re-opening the state, FOX44 News' Dean Wetherbee reports that the Temple Parks & Recreation Department has as well, starting with the Sammons Indoor Pool which opened today.

Here's what to expect in the next couple of weeks:

The Temple Summit Recreation Center will re-open Monday, June 1st with the Railroad & Heritage Museum opening the following day, Tuesday, June 2.

All city owned pools will officially re-open on Monday, June 8. This includes Walker Pool, Clark Pool, & Summit Outdoor Pool.

Finally, on Monday, June 15, summer camps will re-open with limited availability for health and safety reasons. Call 254-298-5690 or go to templetx.gov./summercamps for details.

Unfortunately, not everything in Temple is opening up soon or at all.

According to a media release issued by Heather Bates with the City of Temple, Lions Junction Family Water Park will remain closed for the rest of the summer.

The Sammons Community Center will remain closed until further notice, as will city park playgrounds and splash pads, pavilions rentals, the Miller Park skate park, park restrooms, and City of Temple athletic programs.

The Wilson Recreation Center, Gober Party House, and Blackmon Community Center are closed for recreational programming, but are expected to be used for some summer programs. Again, you can direct questions to 254-298-5690 or go to templetx.gov./summercamps for details.
