Oh my good gravy, I loved that album up there. Back in the day, there was no downloading. There were no c.d.s. You got an album, you lived in that album. You loved it, you played till the record started skipping or the cassette started tangling. Then the scratches just became part of the experience. The tape was untangled, and you didn't mind the bits where the audio got all crinkly.  Cos Lord knows your parents weren't gonna pop for a new copy.

I remember this video always seemed to be on the MTV early in the morning, just when I was off to school. back when MTV cared about stuff like this. Yup. Not a pregnan teen mom in sight here. Just the odd amalgamation that was the members of the Cars swanning around the empty home where once was love. And yes, that's lead singer Ric Ocasek imitating Bob Dylan one the line "Yer so trecher-OUS." And yes, the cars were the first band I ever saw live and yes by live I mean they did more loitering than performing, with the exception of guitarist Elliot Easton, who somehow gave the impression of being in another, more active band.

*sidenote* A friend of mind in Baltimore was just recently at The Food King, when she turned into the dairy aisle and there stood Ric Ocasek himself, pricing eggs. "Pardon me, : said my friend, "but aren't you-"

"Yes," said Ric Ocasek. "I'm Ric Ocasek." Then he turned and huffed away.

True story.
