Goodbye Splash Mountain, hello Princess and the Frog. Disney will re-theme its controversial Splash Mountain attraction.

Splash Mountain is based on the Disney film from 1946 called 'Song of the South", which has been criticized for many years over its depiction Black people, and with the current state of the world, this change has been a long time coming.

The new theme Disney chose is 'Princess and the Frog'. According to a statement from The Disney Parks blog,

“The retheming of Splash Mountain is of particular importance today. The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year,”

According to the same blog, 'The Princess and the Frog' will be a musical adventure that follows Princess Tiana and Louis as they prepare for their Mardi Grass performance.

No time table has been announced for the new 'The Princess and the Frog' themed attraction yet, but Disney says it's been in the works since last year.
