Killeen Motorcycle Crash Claims Woman’s Life

A woman in her 30's is dead after her motorcycle collided with a sedan in Killeen Saturday night.

Ofelia Miramontez with the Killeen Police Department reported Sunday that emergency responders were dispatched to the 1600 block of South Fort Hood Street shortly before 10 PM January 30 after someone called 911 to report the crash.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they found 36-year-old Marla Harris lying unconscious in the roadway. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced Harris dead at the scene at 11:15 PM.

According to Miramontez, a preliminary investigation revealed that Harris was riding her Harley Davidson south along State Highway 195 at an unsafe speed when the driver of a black Nissan Versa failed to yield right-of-way at a stop sign and entered the intersection to head north on SH 195.

Harris' motorcycle struck the left quarter panel of the Nissan and she was ejected from her vehicle. Police say Harris was not wearing a helmet.

Police did not comment on the condition of the occupants of the Nissan sedan, and the case remained under investigation Sunday.

Unfortunately, Harris' was not the only life last Saturday night in Killeen. One man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting that occurred roughly half an hour before Saturday's crash.

Around 9:32 PM, police were dispatched to the 900 block of York Avenue after receiving reports of a shooting victim. When they arrived, they found the deceased victim (whose identity had not been released Sunday pending notification of next of kin) and two other men who were transported to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with gunshot wounds.

Detectives say the three victims were at a home in the 600 block of Murphy Street when the shooter arrived and started a disturbance, during which shots were fired.

Police have not released the suspect's name.
