Killeen, Texas Murder from 2017 to Be Featured on TV Next Week

A Killeen, Texas murder from 2017 will make its way to the small screen next week on Investigation Discovery's "Fear Thy Neighbor".

The show is in its 8th season and has been airing on Investigation Discovery since 2014. It features true crime stories of neighborhood feuds that turn deadly. Investigation Discovery's website describes the show:

"Do you really know who lives next door? This true-crime series tells the chilling tales of those with the misfortune to unwittingly take up residence within a stone’s throw of a psycho or killer."  

The episode to feature the murder of John Seth Jr. will be called “The Next Door War” and will air on Monday, June 27 at 9pm.

The Killeen Daily Herald reports that what makes this true crime story so interesting is the age of both men involved.

The victim, John Seth Jr., was 80 years old when he was gunned down by his 84 year old neighbor, Santiago Vasquez. Both men are Army veterans who apparently had been feuding over the previous 12 years.

Emily Hilley-Sierzchula, The Killeen Daily Herald’s courts reporter, will be featured as one of the people interviewed for the show.

Neighborly Feud Turns to Murder

We reported back in 2019 on the murder of Seth Jr. from 2017. Witnesses testified that Vasquez had been harassing Seth for some time, and that the two got into an altercation on the afternoon of May 30, 2017. During that argument, Vasquez pushed Seth to the ground and struck him with his cane before shooting him three times in the chest and abdomen.

Vasquez's lawyer argued a self defense case, but the jury didn't agree and sentenced him to 14 years in prison. At the time of the sentencing, Vasquez was 86, so a 14 year sentence would see him in prison until he was 100 years old - essentially a life sentence.

Vasquez will be eligible for parole on March 11, 2026.
