Just last week, we were commemorating the anniversary of the release of Ghostbusters II, which opened in theaters on June 16, 1989. The movie came out 28 years ago, which means the twin babies who played Sigourney Weaver’s son Oscar in the film were about that age too. That makes this story even sadder; TMZ reports that Hank Deutschendorf has died of an apparent suicide.

With Paul Feig at the helm and a quartet of hilarious women who are great at improvising, it’s not surprising that the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of the Ghostbusters reboot is packed with additional scenes, outtakes, deleted scenes, gag reels and — as many fans hoped — an extended cut of the film. Yes, yes, our old pal Stay Puft the giant marshmallow man is back in these new TV spots for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, but the real delight here is watching Melissa McCarthy fire her proton pack at the crotch of a huge, sinister version of the iconic logo. “How do you like that?!” she shouts, and I think the only response is, "Very much, please continue."

My daughter is five months old, and at this point her experience of popular culture is mostly limited to board books. (She’s a big fan of DC’s My First Book of Girl Power.) She’s too young to watch movies or television, despite my repeated insistence that Gymkata is an important work of art that must be considered and appreciated.
